Please Be Careful With Lift-up Doors On Cages

Featured Replies

I was putting some vegies on the floor of the cage and accidentally dropped the door, it fell shut and jammed Bobby's foot underneath it, as he was climbing up to greet me. :D His foot was jammed tightly outside the cage... I opened the cage and caught him but it was too late for his foot, it was dangling by his side and he can't move it :D:) :)

I feel so horrible that I have hurt my baby, it was completely an accident and I hope it gets better :D He is by himself in his cage now with soft padding incase he falls, and he is perching, just has trouble getting on the perch.

My poor poor baby, it is horrible seeing him like this - I was so upset.... Poor Bea had a sooking me on the other end of the phone... :(

*hugs* I certainly don't mind being there for you to talk to. I'm sure Bobby will forgive you very fast and his little foot will heal. Give him a kiss from me.

:D Big hugs for both of you. Hope all is well soon. Let us know what happens. Don't beat yourself up too much over this....accidents happen :D

oh no Riebe I hope he is okay. I would suggest pm'ing chirpy or rainbow I remember they had talked about splitting. If it is broken? Keep an eye out for behavior change which could indicate infection. And vet trip?

Hugs - he will forgive you (kisses from Pretty and Merlin to Bobby - get well soon)

:) Oh dear, what an unfortunate accident, don't blame yourself. Get well soon Bobby!

Oh dear. Poor Bobby. It is an accident, so don't blame yourself for it.

Hugs and kisses to Bobby.

Poor thing! Those doors can be very dangerous, it's true. You have to be careful. Not long after I got Pixel, she managed to get her neck trapped under a guillotine-style door and it was awful. I really thought she was a goner! She acted as if her neck was broken and the only ER vet in my area told me to wait and see if she was still alive in the morning. Ugh. They were very insensitive about the whole ordeal.

That bird has been through so many things, it's amazing that she's still alive and well! I hope your little budgie feels better soon. Are you going to have him looked at by the vet? It would be a really good idea as they could pinpoint the damage and then possibly fix him up so that he can use that leg/foot again. If nothing else, they could give him medication for the pain.

awwww poor bobby , l hope he will be feeling better soon .

l agree with the others , please don't blame yourself for what happened it was an accident and unfortunately accidents do happen from time to time .

The accident happened late Sunday night, and the vets weren't open, and of course the avian vet isn't in today, so he has an appointment first thing Tuesday morning :D

It seems such a long time for him to wait for treatment, but with this being a smallish town, there is only one avian vet available. I just had my husband go home to check on him and he is apparently sort of resting on it, but still can't move it, and he ate some millet that Scott offered to him....

I can't help but feel guilty, I know I didn't do it deliberately, but if only I hadn't let go, or caught it in time, he would be okay :)

Thank you everyone for your support - it means a lot :hap:

As long as he's not bleeding you can give him half (or less) of a baby aspirin dissolved in water for the pain. You'd have to taste it first to make sure you can't taste the aspirin but that really helped Pixel when she was injured. It might help just a little.

No problem! I would have mentioned that sooner but I wasn't sure when he was going to the vet and I don't know how long it's safe to use aspirin in water. But if he's going soon, it should be no problem. It's what my vet recommended to me for Pixel.

Oh poor little Bobby. Accidents happen, so dont blame yourself too much. At least you were there and helped ASAP. Please let us know how he gets on

Love

Cindy

Bobby is spending the day at the vets, he has fractured his leg and they are going to put him under a light anisthetic (sp?) to splint it. :D I will be picking him up at 5:00pm... Will keep you updated.

*hugs* Poor little mite. Hopefully the splint will help him get better real fast. I bet he'll need lots of love and kisses when he gets home.

Yep for sure Bea - I think he deserves another splurge at the painted parrot!!! :D

:D I bet Scott will love that! Pay the vet bills and then spoilt him with more new toys. :D Give Bobby a kiss from me when he gets home.

Aww I'm sure he'll be fine. :) Pixel's left wing is a little wonky from a fracture that healed incorrectly (my idiot vet at the time didn't do anything for it and didn't even realize it was fractured; but to her defense, the wing did look okay at first). But anyway, she recovered fine despite all that. I'm sure Bobby will too. My flock sends him thoughts of millet and jingly toys. :)

((hugs)) and get well wishes I know you are worried he is a very special budgie to all off us and we will be thinking of him. Don't blame yourself as others have said that is why it is called an accident. Thank goodness our pets forgive us so easily at times.
