Posted October 29, 200618 yr Hey all! I have witnessed something a bit disgusting between my male and female budgerigar. I thought they were kissing but I noticed some slimy stuff and the girl was actually regurgitating seeds and the boy was eating them!!! Why is this happening??? Sick!
October 29, 200618 yr :(Laughing out loud): They are just loving each other. They are feeding each other. Bonded birds do that. It can look gross, but it really is a good thing. Shell
October 29, 200618 yr Just wait till they start trying to feed you HAHAAA.. Ive personally never had such well fed fingers since owning budgies :(Laughing out loud):
October 29, 200618 yr Awwww that's so cute! Anyway...I don't know if they're ready for breeding yet but when I put the breeding box in...they're scared of it! I want her to lay eggs!! Euuw I don't want them to start regurgitating on me ...
October 29, 200618 yr I'm not saying this to be rude (hope it's not taken that way) but maybe it would be best for you to learn a little more about budgies before going into breeding them? Regurgitation is basic knowledge and we all have to start somewhere. There is a LOT that goes into taking care of budgies properly as pets and even more when it comes to breeding them responsibly. You can find a lot of good information here but it's better to do research (here and elsewhere) before putting in a nest box. There are people who go into this thinking it's easy, carefree, inexpensive, etc. and then they find out that it can be anything but! Breeding can be heartbreaking, wallet-emptying, and extremely time consuming (especially if you end up having to handfeed a chick). Again, I'm not trying to be rude to you or anything like that. I would just hate to see you go into this and find out that it's not the way you thought it would be. I've seen a lot of budgies suffer due to their owners just not knowing any better about certain things and I'd hate to see that situation occur with you.
October 29, 200618 yr Point taken. Thanks for the warning! The birds actually belong to my friend who is a veterinary student with plenty of experience and works(and lives) at the animal hospital. She wants me to watch them for her as she already has so many animals to look after. I understand what you're saying and I'll take it to heart. I always ask her if I'm unsure of anything (it's convenient here also) and if anything happens (illness etc) they're in good hands. I love Jewel and Paris and I wouldn't even consider looking after them if I didn't have the right means of support (monetary, trusted information, healthcare) at my disposal. If you're worried about budgies suffering, you can relax It's pretty convenient for me because I can contact her 24/7 and get immediate help. But I really really appreciate you warning me and others about this! It's a very important issue! I'm very grateful!
