Cohabitation

Hi again, -_-

I have an opportunity to get a scarlet chested grass parakeet. He looks so sad and lonely there in that cage at the store, and has been there for a long while. I was just wondering if I got him, could he live with my budgies? They are nearly the same size, and the budgies would certainly be company for him. What do you think?

;) For some people this works but then for others it ends up really badly..

You will need to consider their own personal needs and make sure they have enough space.. Lot's of people will advise against it and if it was inside in a little cage id say id have to advise against it also but cant see why you cant have the new addition in a separate cage and come out for FULLY SUPERVISED playtime with the budgies.. You know the nature of the birds you already have and you will need to take that into consideration. Inside i have my 3 Budgies, Gypsy the Lorikeet and also Baby my little Honeyeater.. Baby and the budgies get on great and also Gypsy and the Budgies are best of friends (my budgies are very tolerant) and out in the aviary the budgies are living with Horse the dove and they all get along great (horse just seems to be one of the gang out there)...

If you are going to do it, be ULTRA prepared to have a second cage ready just incase it doesn't work out and make sure you fully supervise them to make sure there are no injurys or even deaths from the mixing..

Good luck

:( There is one here that I have seen in the petstore forever it seems and I feel sorry for it. Actually, I had never seen one before and I guess people are kind of thrown off by the price (close to $200) whereas a regular budgie can be purchased for $20 - $30. ;)

Thanks for responding! ;) I can get the little guy for $40. Of course I would be very cautious. I am getting a really big cage on monday. I thought I might put him in it first and then add one budgie in at a time to see how they get along. I have a couple other cages that would do just fine for him too if that doesn't work out. I would just like to see him have some friends. If the budgies are not nice to him, I will be his special friend and he will get lots of attention either way. I just know he would be better off with me and my crew than to be left in that cage at the petstore alone.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks again,

Shell
