Posted October 27, 200618 yr Hi! my budgie name is roxi, he is 1 year old for the last couple of days he is standing in his food bowl and talking to the mirror for hours at a time he would not move from there unless I shoo him off but after couple of minutes comes back again and start chirping and pecking and talking and even naps in the handles of the bowl. Is this normal behaviour? please help
October 27, 200618 yr :dbb1: Hello and Welcome.. What your budgie is doing is perfectly normal behaviour, hes excited thinking he has a new playmate :(Laughing out loud): One of my budgies (Mig) is ALWAYS at the mirror i put out on the floor for him, chatting away, head bobbing, tapping his beak on the mirror and running backwards as if hes trying to moonwalk If what hes doing bothers you at all, maybe change it with another toy to keep him occupied Cheers  Una
October 27, 200618 yr There is a huge post about a not giving a budgie a mirror. This a topic of personal choice. I never gave Pretty a mirror which made a big difference in his training. I remember my grandma her budgie was obessed with his mirror. We know more now and you can take the suggestions and do what you feel is best. Some people won't take it away because they find it cruel but I think it is crueler if they are obessing over an object that can't provide the love, attention and affection that we can as their companion. A mirror as a treat is okay, when he comes out you can give it to him to play with but as a companion can make for an over protective bird in his cage because he sees this mirror (or the reflection) as his mate. So I would take it out and give a different toy. You will see a positive change in behavior.
