Breeding my birds...

Featured Replies

:) Hi All,

My male and female budgies have been in their breeder cage now for 8 days.

The hen has been in the nest box once or twice and rearranged the saw dust.

I have not actually seen them mating...

Today when i went out and changed the food and water, i noticed the hen's cere was a cream colour on the top half and dark brown on the bottom half... does this mean anything

Budgiedude :)

PS. Do you think she may lay eggs???

First off accually seeing them mate is hard, budgies don't seem to like a crowd, who would? (Laughing out loud). They mate early mornings. 8 days is not long at all for a first time mom. If she has breed before then eggs should be comming soon but first timers take a bit longer any where up to three weeks.

I'm not sure about the cere change. She may be coming out of condition for breeding which is the only reason I know of the brown going to cream, but I've never heard of it happening so fast like that.

And yes I think if you wait a bit longer you should get eggs.

thanks for your help.

(Laughing out loud)

I like reading about your baby budgies here

teehee Thanks, first times are always fun, and I like that I"m sharing it with others thatdon't have a chance of breeding theirs. :)

I think people who currently breed budgies enjoy reading your posts as well.

oh yea that too :)

It's always fun to hear about babie animals :)

I love all baby animals (most of them anyway)

me too.

I don't like spiders and thoses sort of animals, they freak me out, but snakes are cool. :(Laughing out loud):

How are your baby budgies doing?

 all the little guys are doing wounderfully :) Thanks, did I post about then today?? I suck at remembering things like that (Laughing out loud).
all the little guys are doing wounderfully

I am glad to hear that

This morning I went out and checked the birds and topped up seed, blew husks, changed water etc (all the usual stuff)

I noticed the hen's faeces seem to be triple the size of regular faeces...

Is this common?

If she is spending more time in the nest box, then yes, it is common. It just means she is not coming out to defacate as often. Once there are eggs, she will probably only come out to relieve herself maybe 5 times a day instead of every 15-20 minutes like usual.

Okay, Thankyou Rainow.

I didn't know they usually relieve themselves every 15-20 minutes

I thought it was more often... You learn something new everyday (Laughing out loud)
