Posted October 24, 200618 yr i wanted to know if i can make my own recipe to raise the nutrition level on my breeding budgies like recipe: 4 cups water 1 cup oil 2 cups higgins vita seed 2 boiled carrot 1 whole cuttle bone and blend these all together will this be a proper(good) recipe to help raise my chances in nutrition and hand feed it to them Edited October 24, 200618 yr by shaquille
October 25, 200618 yr Basically thats just water with a bit of carrot and some seed added. You can buy pellets with all the vitamins and stuff added to it, or grate/blend a range of different vegies and sprinkle some vitamin powder over it if you think it still needs it- I'm dubious of adding some vitamins as adding something without the addition of something else can cause problems (with dogs adding just calcium restricts/prevents the amount of some other vitamins to be absorbed causing a deficiency there too) if they are getting vegies and good quality seed they shouldn't need it. Just read Pauls post too about adding a little oil to the seed for egg laying hens- read that it sounds quite good and a way to get the oil into them you described. Cuttlebone I've heard isn't that nutritional anyway. Good for there beaks though
October 25, 200618 yr When mine are breeding ( and when i just want to give them an extra treat) I make up some Egg mix.. http://www.javafinch.co.uk/egg/eggndx.html My bird love it and when they are breeding its nice and easy for them to feed to the young Cheers  Una
