Posted October 24, 200618 yr Hey guys, I noticed today that my fist hatchling 10 days old has a foot defect. he is missing one of his front claws. There is no sign of trauma so I am guessing it is a genetic defect. All the other hatchlings are fine. Is this going to affect his perching? Should I avoid breeding both Mum and Dad again? Here is a picture what do you think? Thanks KellyM :hap:
October 24, 200618 yr I wouldn't consider it genetic untill it happens twice from the same pair, could just be it didn't develope whie in the egg, things like that can happen. because it's only one digit missing I wouldn't worry about perching, the little one should do fine, he'll just be unique. are his other toes placed right?
October 25, 200618 yr I would think he would be fine, it's not like he is a woodpecker that has to hang onto trees, budgies that have only one leg seem to make out okay. Also my Rosey Bourke is minus one claw (courtesy of the budgies) but it doesn't slow her down at all.

Yes his other toes are fine. I am glad to hear it shouldn't slow him down too much thanks for replying.
