Posted October 23, 200618 yr Hey all, I would just like to let everyone know about the conversation I had with the breeder I got one of my budgies from, she said that she had made some sort of mistake when she told me the age of the female budgie (Echo) she gave me a couple months ago. I guess it turns out that right now she is somewhere around 13 months old . I guess when I got her she was around 10 months old. This was a shock to me because I think she sort of looks young. This was somewhat of a weird day today, because of the mistake the breeder made, I decided to call my friend who gave me my male (Bugs) to make sure I was correct on his age. I thought that he was about 10 months old, BUT there was a misunderstanding between him and me. To make a long story short, it turns out that Bugs is about 12-12 and a half months old :hap: . The reason I posted this is the breeding area was because I was wondering if I could add a breeding nest today? This was probably one of the strangest days I have had for a long time. October 23, 200618 yr Are those the two in your signature? If so, they look very young... I would wait just in case they were wrong (again?). They don't sound like types to have kept very close records!
October 24, 200618 yr If your ages of 12 1/2 and 13 months old are correct, I would still wait another 4-6 months before supplying the nest box.
October 24, 200618 yr Author Thats why I was so surprised and questioning there judgement on their age. Because they look so young. That picture was taken 3 months ago. Yeah the best idea would be to wait, but how long?
October 24, 200618 yr Author I would say that is a good idea. The thing is though I think they are at least 10 months, the male might be 9
October 24, 200618 yr Then wait closer to 6 months. I think the closer they are to 18 months is a safer bet that they will be mature enough to successfully breed and raise young.
