It It Too Late For Bonding

Hi, ive had Snowy for nearly one month, she lets me stroke her front when shes in and out of her cage but she will not step onto my finger. When she is out of the cage she will step onto my finger for about 20 seconds then fly around the room. I try everyday but nothing. As soon as i put the cage back into the room she goes straight into it.

She doesnt like millet and will not go anywhere near it when it is in her cage, i have tried her with nuts and salad and veg. Does anyone have anyother ideas what i can give her for a treat. I have also tried the trill treat bars which she didnt try.

It is never too late to bond and 1 month is nothing from what I learned with Pretty. He didn't show signs of bonding until I had him for 9 months.

Just a note most birds don't like to be stroked in the front but like a scratch behind the head and under the neck in the back (that is where they are preened by other budgies).

The best thing that I found is being around Pretty all the time. At that time his cage was smaller so where ever we were I took him with me. And when I took a shower I let him fly about on his cage with the door locked so there was no mishaps (we have cats). Constanst exposure to you is what will create the bond.

it took for ages for my budgie to stay on my fingers.

id try your shoulder.

my budgie feels a lot more safer on my shoulder.

yes shoulders are excellent Pretty and Merlin always will jump on my shouder vs staying on my finger. Then they are closer for kisses .

How is the training going?

My budgie Sammi won't even go near my shoulder but he always goes on my finger.

My Chester's a bit of a silly one and likes being on people's heads rather than shoulder or finger.

I would also like to say it takes a long time for them to knowing you,

so they he might bite you if you try to scratch him around his head as this is one of

their most sensitive places! i know how you feel i thought my budgie hated me but they just

need to get used to you an eventualy they will run up to you when you walk past their cage :)
