How Much Is Enough?

Featured Replies

After much research, here and elsewhere, I have decided to move to a mixture of seed and pellets. I bought a bag of Kaytee Exact pellets. The bag says that I should feed two tablespoons of pellets per day per bird. but that is only if I am feeding pellets only. My goal is about half and half. My question is this. About how much seed do you think a budgie eats in a day? I usually put about a 1/4 cup of seed in the cage for two birds for a day. I guess I just want opinions about how much of which food you would serve daily. They also get vegies daily too.

Thanks :feedbirds:

First things first, don't use the Kaytee pellets - Kaytee uses ethoxyquin in their products which is dangerour for birds.

Brands to be avoided are: Kaytee and Lafeber. These brands contain preservatives, specifically ethoxyquin, and also contain artificial preservatives and colorings. Kaytee is also infamously known for overloading their pellets with sugar!

I feed Blinkie and Ozzie a mix of seed and pellets and i give them 2 tsp of seed and 1 tsp of pellets EACH (they have a food bowl each). They seem to eat most of it and they aren't overweight so i must be doing something right. :)

Thanks for that Bea! I'll be sure to find another brand. All my birds are healthy and happy and I want to keep it that way.
