October 24, 200618 yr yep they do that!! Mum'll get used to you, my hen likes to come stand on me when I'm holding them- keeping an eye on me I spose She's pretty good though they all get worried when they squark
October 25, 200618 yr Unfortunately Skye (mum) is a real biter so I'm somewhat scared of her...(Laughing out loud). She actually drew blood last time I tried to hold her so I never touched her again But everytime I mess around in the nestbox I give her a millet treat afterwards so she's learning to trust me a bit more alora
October 25, 200618 yr Yep thats all you can do- don't be put off handling them though!! My hen was an aviary bird- never tame, but since her clutch she even steps up onto my hand in the aviary and is so cruisy now.
October 27, 200618 yr Well that's really cool! thanks! I decided to have a little 'quality time' with the babies today...I took each of them our one by one and cuddled with them a bit...Sunny and Jake both have their eyes open but little Ayla doesn't yet...Sunny and Jake were both looking up at me and then their heads would flop down because they can't lift them well yet...Jake is now officially 1 week and 1 day old =) so adorable! here are some updated pics! Sorry the bottom of the nestbox looks so nasty! (Laughing out loud)...I took most of the pine shavings out before I took the pics so you could see the babies better I cleaned it totally when I got home from school today Right: sunny Left: Jake underneath: Ayla (Laughing out loud) http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...a/DSCN1190.jpg THENNNNNNNN: Left: Sunny (top head) Ayla (bottom head) Right: Jake http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...TakenOct26.jpg i'll get more soon! =)
October 27, 200618 yr well well WELL!! This morning I woke up to find one more little chickie And that is the reason for letting eggs go over the due date. Surpirses can happen :ausb: Glad they are all doing well. My hens will dash back into the box and huddle the others under her but always welcome the one I've got back. October 28, 200618 yr It is really cute when Skye does that...She can't possibly wait to get back in that nestbox once I have one of them out...I've been holding Jake more than the others because he's getting so big and his eyes are open now so I want him to be really tame...He fell asleep on my hand for about 20 minutes today...then he woke up and pooped...LMAO Alora I'll try and get the pics to work for you Una Can you see them now? :ausb: http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c116/Bea.../TakenOct26.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c116/Bea...ta/DSCN1190.jpg Edited October 28, 200618 yr by Alora
October 28, 200618 yr Well that's good! How soon can you tell what colours they are going to be? Because I can see a dark band on his wing and it's almost a dark blue...Is that his wing colour or is it too early to tell? Thanks! Alora Edited October 28, 200618 yr by Alora

November 14, 200618 yr Congratulations, It is always exciting when you see a new bub, then its a wait to see it getting feathers and working out what colour it will be, then trying to determine the sex, then its watching their little heads come up when you go look in the nesting box. Excitement again when the first chick pops his head out of the nesting box. It is always a wonderful feeling. Cindy
November 15, 200618 yr It's quite funny because Jake likes to stick his head and some of his body right out of the nestbox hole...He's really loud when he does that I'm thinking that he is actually a she...She bites really hard for a little birdie! ouch! Alora

December 2, 200618 yr Thanks guys! I'm actually only about halfway through the first book but am getting through it pretty fast...I'm at the part where Brom just got back with Saphira from tracking down the Urgals...I wonder what they look like.................... I'm thinking they might look like ringwraiths or orcs or something from lord of the rings but I guess we'll see...(Laughing out loud) Alora Edited December 2, 200618 yr by Alora
