Posted October 19, 200618 yr http://www.burkesbackyard.com.au/2002/archives/2002?p=821 If you keep budgies in a mixed aviary, remember that the blue budgies are much less likely to find mates than the green ones, so you'll breed more green or yellow budgies. Serious breeders overcome this problem by placing one pair of budgies in a cage, instead of allowing them to choose their own mates. A pair of blue budgies will breed very well, but given a choice they would always prefer to mate with green type budgies. (part of the article for those who breed aviary style do you find this to be true?)
October 19, 200618 yr (Laughing out loud) Bubbles... that's coz almost your entire flock are made out of blue budgies!!!
October 19, 200618 yr Interesting. Well most of my budgies are blue based too. But Wylie has chosen Daffy who is green, and is not interested in any others. I tried him in a cage with Bella for awhile (hoping to spark some interest and possibly get my YF2 spangles. But they completely ignored each other. He is in with Daff and they are so in love. It is almost gaggish to watch them . But none of the males are interested in Beka - a dilute green.
October 21, 200618 yr I have blues and greens and currently have two green/blue pairs, in the past i've never had greens and blues attracted to each other.
