Can I ask what you are feeding the babies, how often and what method you are using to feed them with....i.e. syringe, spoon etc. Do they have dirty bottoms ? Are they under a warm lamp all the time or just when you feel necessary ? What ages are they again ? Please give us some more information so we can help you.

:)

No, I dont think you are a "bad tamer" at all. You are doing the best you can. But you must use a better baby budgie hand rearing mix for your babies as Jenene suggested in your other post. Egg and biscuit doesn't have all the nutrition these little guys need. You can buy the handrearing formulas at any stock feeding stores, most petshops and all bird dealer places. A warm place all the time like a brooder helps, but not too hot obviously. Who feeds them when you are at school ? If the mother had something and the babies caught it then they would I expect have dirty bottoms. I use a sulpha remedy (also known as sulpha D ) in their formula as well if they are sickly too. Just a couple of drops, but if your babies arent suffering dirty bottoms they should be fine. Another thing to consider is what you are feeding them at what ages too. Is what you are feeding them right for them and enough to wean them onto seeds. Ages of babies ?? I really think you must get a better food for these babies. Jenene told you about a better food for raising babies....have you tried to find some near you ? Again what ages are the babies and how did it come about that you ended up feeding them ? What happened to the parents ? Sorry for all the questions but we can help more if we have more information to go on...........cheers karen

:)

as i said when i posted the add in the first place i take them out of the ensting box when there are 3 weeks old and i hand feed them that is what i was told by my dads best friend that is a really good bird breeder and has lots of birds to many to count my mum does feed them when i at school and we have had no probs befor tehre bums are not dirty at all and we are getting the enw food to day i just hope it pulls the other ones through me and mum are good with the bird we wash out hand after and befor we handel them becasue our dad had a scar with a case of the bird flu 3 years ago form wild birds after that we are very safe after this they perents are in a aviry what do u think with the nest bunch do u think i should leave them in for longer and tame them where they are older it is just i have had luck with taming and selling them when i have handeld them more

With my babies, if I handle them from the day they are born on a daily basis in the nest with the parents, they tame down enough to be a great pet budgie by the time they fledge. It takes away the risk of them not making it due to whatever....food, warmth, bacterial infections etc. Parental raised is great if the parents are good. For the measly extra dollar you get for a baby budgie that is "hand raised" if you are selling them, it isnt worth all the stress and losses, for me anyway. This of course would be different for those handrearing the rarer and more expensive parrots as others do. I don't know what else I can tell you that will help at all.

:)

i have tryed that befor leaving them in the nesting box but when i tuched it the mum killed one becasue of my send and chucket it out so it wa to much of a risk leaving it in there

;)

sad news another one died i dont know what this illness is but it is killing them fast i am taking the dead one to the vet to have a bio on it to see if that can tell me somthing i hope it can i dont what is wrong but it is getting to me now i have never lost so many in my life i am just so upset all there lives are over is any one having the same prob with there birds i really need some help

:budgiedance:

The Babies maybe dying of sour crop but you must take a dead one to an avian vet to be certain.

Is the mix you are giving too dry. Check the age mixture directions.

Why are you feeding the chicks at 3 weeks? Is it to tame them? If so wait until 4 weeks. The first 28 days is the most crutial to thier development. The mother is the best to feed her chicks. Let her for the first 4 weeks. Egg and Biscuit is no good. It was ment to be a protien additive not a total feeding soloution. Stop feeding them that and get a proper Baby Hand rearing mix as Bubbles said. You can hand feed them from 4 weeks and they will tame.

I'm sorry to hear about your losses. I hope you can get to the root of the problem.

Handfed vs. parent raised

i believe that the "handfed babies are better socialized adults" is a myth, perpetuated by mega breeders to charge more. baby and adult birds become socialized by gentle & loving handling by humans, whether they are fed by humans or not. allowing the parents to feed and handling the babies every day has the same effect.

because so many people don't know how to build a bond with a bird, they use the shortcut of handfeeding. i prefer parent fed, human socialized birds... they are healthier and more well-adjusted in the long-run.

I do realise that situations arise when breeders have no other choice than to handfeed chicks.
