Posted October 14, 200618 yr My Budgie, when i put my hand in his cage he is skinny, and when i take my hand out of the cage and close the door, he gets all big. Is it because he is cold or what! I hope that he is not sick! If someone has an answer to this please tell me! Thanks My budgie was sick last year and i don't want him to get sick again! :dbb1: Thanks Mickey
October 14, 200618 yr They tend to fluff up when they are preening themselves or sitting in their cages and getting ready to sleep. I have pics that make Pretty and Merlin look fat but they are not (Laughing out loud). When budgies are sick they will fluff up but usually sit in one spot, look listless, many not eat or drink. If you are seeing these symptoms your budgie is most likely sick and should be seen by an avian vet ASAP.
October 14, 200618 yr Thanks Lovely! He is eating and can fly around so i think he is okay! But one more question Do they fluff up all the time because joey he if fluffed up like all day, so if you can answer that question for me that would be great! Thanks Mickey :bluebudgie: :dbb1:
October 14, 200618 yr Canada is starting into fall like we are here in Ohio, USA so is it chilly in your house? He shouldn't be fluffed up all day, does he play, chirp etc?? Being that he is the only budgie they do tend to be less active and quieter (sometimes)
October 14, 200618 yr Constantly fluffed up is cause for concern in my oppinion Mickey. What are his poops like, have they changed at all, in colour or texture? Is there any smell with his poops (sounds nasty, but I always do this if Im concerned,) squish a bit of his fresh poop in your fingertips and sniff. Any unpleasant aroma is usually a sign of a gastrointestinal problem. Anne
October 14, 200618 yr Since he is the only budgie he tends to not churp a lot, I play with him and he chirps so i hope that is a good sign. Anne, What does it mean by gastrointestinal problum. Is it somthing bad? I havn't checked Joeys poops yet but i was cleaning his cage this morning and his poops looked fine! Please Reply Soon, Mickey :bluebudgie: :dbb1:
October 14, 200618 yr Have you had him long? When you say he gets skinny when your hand is in the cage and fluffs up when you take it out, it sounds to me like he is afraid of your hand. When budgies get "skinny" or stand up tall and thin and very still they are afraid. If he fluffs up afterwards, he could be releasing tension and relaxing a little.
