Mating but no eggs

Hi, I have 2 budgies that we found. My MIL found one on her screen door and gave it to us. Appears to be Male, i think he's a yellow spangle? The other bird landed on our roof about 6 months later. I climbed up and she hopped on my arm, and so we now had 2 budgies. She is blue. Anyway, they hated each other, she bossed him around ans squarked at him a lot. when the days started to heat up, so did their relaitionship! they have mated quite a few times so i thought i should get them a box. She LOVES it. i put some grass clipping in and she spends a lot of time rearranging them and lining the box with soft feathers. she uses her own so she's starting to get a few thin spots on her belly. Anyway, she's been in that box for weeks now with no eggs. I have no idea how old she is. could she just be too old to breed? she is quite nippy now and barely comes out of the box. he feeds her and sleeps in the box with her at night. She used to sit on your shoulder and walk aroun in the house but now she won't come out at all. If we take the box out will she calm down again? Should we leave the box in for her to play with?

Thanks

Kirsty

If you remove the box then it should stop the nesting behaviour and she should reutrn to the normal little one that would sit on you shoulder.

How many week's is weeks? One book of mine told me it could take from 8 days to three weeks before eggs show up. After that time you can assume something is wrong with either partner and take the box away.

If you don't know of her age then she may be too old.

It sound like both you and the two budgie got lucky when you found each other.

Could be 2 or 3 months they have been nesting for. So i am assuming there won't be any eggs.

Yes i hate to think what would have happened to them if they hadn't flown into our place. The female in particular wasn't well when we found her.

Not looking forward to trying to get the nest box out. she's very protectve of her teritory now. i have the scars to prove it!
