Is It Safe To Move Babies

Featured Replies

Hi

Chooks 6 babies are only 2 weeks old but getting rather large and their nesting box seems to be a bit too small.

Is it safe to move them, and parents, to a larger breeding cabinet with a bigger nest box that iis attached to it.

I'm not sure if Mum would be happy with that, so i need your input

Cindy

Hi Cindy, I have on few occsions replaced the nest box to a larger one.

I have never moved the whole family, but I suppose if they are together, it could be possible.

Hey Cindy,

I would try to replace the nesting box for a bigger one before I would shift all budgies completely. Budgies don't seem to like big changes made when in the middle of chick raising. Cheers Karen

Hi Cindy-

I know you've already gotten a lot of replies, but I figured I'd chime in because I just dealt with this. My female (Curaco) laid her eggs in a toy! After they hatched and I could maneuver the "nest" I moved them to a new more ideal nest, they all did fine, Mom resumed feeding immediately as if nothing had happened.

Good Luck

Kristi :)

Thanks everone. I think I might leave it for another week if i can.

Karen the Nest box is a fixture to the breeding cabinet, so I cant see how I could replace it with a larger one.

I not that clever worse luck

That blows that theory then huh ?

By the way, I have had 7 babies raised in the normal size nestbox ( petshop style ) with no problems....maybe yours will be fine without help.

Thanks Karen.

If I did not know any better I'd say they were crossed with an eagle:(Laughing out loud): . I've had big babies before (not me, the birds I mean) but these appear to be bigger, or maybe its the colour that makes them seem big.
