I'm coming down with a cold and I have the first of 4 eggs due to hatch tomorrow, are there any precautions I should take when I check the chick other than just washing my hands?

Washing your hands is a good idea, just for hygienal reasons. That said, budgies can't catch our cold viruses so you should be just fine. :)

YES- I 100% agree with etteri- working at bird clinic I get this question all the time.

FYI the only bird to human and human to bird disease is Psittacosis (aka ornithicosis in humans)
