Five Babies And 2 Eggs All In The One Nest ?

Featured Replies

Yes I have five babies in a breeding cabinet with mum and dad. They are fully feathered and probably should have started to come out by now. Wasnt too concerned until Mum started laying again (have 2 eggs so far). Has anyone had this happen before? Any ideas on what to do would be appreciated. Jule :):P

Hi Jule-

I had it happen the last clutch she had, about a year ago. I decided to immediately remove the eggs, however, I also don't know my girls age (she was a rescue) and the first clutch visibly took a lot out of her. She was very thin and haggard looking even though she only hatched 2 babies. I know it happens often enough, I would let her go ahead if you think she is physically up for it (and you are mentally up for it)

Good Luck, Kristi :)

It happens a lot. But with 5 babies in that nest soccerballing the eggs around...chances are that they are addled. If not that, then the poop from 5 larger babies would contaminate the eggs. What you choose to do about it ( the next clutch or the eggs laid ) depends on whether or not you want her to have another clutch or your choices to be made knowing the health of your bird. Cheers Karen

Thank you for your replys. One baby is out of the nest and the rest seem to be more interested. So this should free up the nest box and cabinet. Mum is in good condition and seems insistance on sitting on the eggs despite the others being in there. thanks again Jule :hap:
