Posted October 10, 200618 yr Hi peoples, I have this baby which is about 5 weeks old. Ever since he/she started feathering up it has had a bald spot above the left eye. I've ruled out scaly face because there is no evidence anywhere on the body. The bird doesn't seem to be worried about it, however it doesn't look good. Ideas would be appreciated. Cheers Paul
October 10, 200618 yr Do you recall any in nestbox injuries that may have caused this, or maybe this baby has rubbed against something ? Does the eye weep at all ? Is there any swelling at the site of the problem?
October 10, 200618 yr You could name him 'Scarface Claw' !(sorry my nephew is into pirates at the moment and I couldn't resist!)
October 10, 200618 yr Author I don't think it is an injury, it doesn't weep at all and doesn't look sore. It's hard to see in the photo, it is just bald and there has been no new growth there at all. I can't think of any reason feathers around the eye won't grow back. I've never seen any blood or anything like that. Cheers Paul
October 10, 200618 yr if the bird rubed ans broke the feather it could take a while for the new feathers to grow in. Berry broke two pin feathers while in the nest and had a small bald spot just above her cere becuase of it for a while.
