Posted October 10, 200618 yr Hi all, I'm curious to see if any one here can help me. My female budgie, Clara, is acting odd. She's taken to putting seed (not eaten) and taken bits off the cage cover, and putting it into her water container. It's one of those little containers that hang on the outside of the cage, and poke through, like a tube. When she puts the seed in, it goes up into the tube part and floats up at the top. It's really frustrating! I'm changing the water that many times a day it's no longer funny! Thanks in advance, Amy.
October 10, 200618 yr I would try reagaring the cage and swapping some toys around it could help with this behaviour as she is distracted by something else. It's the first thing that came to mind.
October 10, 200618 yr Maybe you could try a different style water dish (like an actual bowl), if you're already having to change the water bottle a few times a day then you could even save time with a bowl. And i'm sorry but when you described the seed floating up i had to laugh - it sounds so funny!!
October 10, 200618 yr Hi guys, okay, I have tried rearranging the cage, even tried a whole new cage, with no success. Have also tried different water bowls!!! No go!!!! I know it is funny! and I do admit, it makes me chuckle watching her do it!!!! It's just a pain!! Thanks for your quick responses too! And a big thanks for trying to help. Maybe I just got myself a budgie with issues!!! Amy.
October 12, 200618 yr i use the water bottles that are like a hamster type bottle, will the tube that comes out with the ball bearing in it. it make cleaning so much easier!
October 13, 200618 yr :ausb: I had to change the type of feed/water containers for Coco as well as she was wrecking everything, putting seed in water, water in seed, ripping off the top of the containers..........she has more toys than anybody but then she is the high energy acrobat who uses the play gym a lot or makes her own play routine when out of cage. Perhaps it is just boredom. :glare:
October 13, 200618 yr i use the water bottles that are like a hamster type bottle, will the tube that comes out with the ball bearing in it.it make cleaning so much easier! I have just started using the hamster style water bottles too. The birds love it and line up for a play with the drinking spout. And yes they do drink from it and they love it. No seed would get in there. :glare:
October 13, 200618 yr that hamser bottle might be worth a try. Alsomaybe find something for her to 'shred' your in Aussie land so any native tree like a gum or a bottlebrush branch will have great bark just waiting to be removed :glare:
October 13, 200618 yr What great ideas!!!! I'll definately try the hamster bottle, and I've got plenty of gum trees around me! Thanks heaps, I'll let you know how it goes! Amy. :glare:
