What Do You Think?

Hey all, here are a few pics of my male budgie (Bugs), when I got him I thought he was a doublefactor dominant pied, but then someone told he they thought he was recessive, and I thought so too because of the markings on his wings. But when I look at him sometimes I swear I can see iris rings coming in. What do you all think?

kind of blurry

how old is Bugs? DF usually have blue ceres in the males too, along with the iris ring.

Well that is a though question. I would say he is around 9-10 months, but see he still has the bars going down to his cere and he has a pinkish purple cere. I am still confused why he still has the bars going down to his cere.

I say recessive because DFs usually have few markings but near the neck rather than the butt.

If he is that old he would most likely be recessive the cere would have started to change by now. How many times has he molted since you had him? It takes a couple for the baby lines to sometimes go away.

Recessive pied.

Recessive tend to have their colour on their tummy and rump, whereas the double factor dominant pied will show their body colour on their rump only and somewhere around the neck area. Of course this is not true for all birds, but from the look of t he picture, I'll say recessive pied

And also some recessive keeps their headbar even after they've molted.

Pretty didn't keep his bars - we was one of those :) but I am leaning toward recessive too.

He has molted at least 2 or 3 times. So you said that some recessive pieds keep their bars all of their lives? Yeah from what you all are saying and from other recessives I have seen he does look to be recessive.

yep Pretty in my siggy is a recessive

I cant really tell, but does Pretty still have her bars? how old is she? Very good looking budgies you have by the way.

Pretty is a little over a year, I got him in Sept of 05. He doesn't have his bars anymore it took about 2-3 moults for him to loose them but he still has the side barring by his eyes.

He looks recessive pied. Yes some of them keep the head bars, Poka my rec. didn't :P but he still has his cute pink cere and baby type eyes  (no iris)

Wow I did not know that. That explains alot haha. Here I am confused thinking what is wrong with my budgie? But wow I thought they all lost their baby stripes.

I think they call it the "cap" in some of the recessive that is a term I have heard. He is a cutie!
