We Have Eggs!

Hey Guys,

I am so happy Ihave three pairs set up at the moment and the first pair have laid. We have a total of 4 eggs in the clutch. The First egg was laid Tuesday 26th September. Star is a vigilant Mum and very rarely comes out of the box. Here are some photos of the proud parents. Star is a Type II yellow face spangle and Will is a sky blue pied as he has the spot on the back of his head.

Any guesses what varieties we will get?

:feedbirds:

Whatever they are they will be absolutely gorgeous babes. I can't wait till it is my turn to find tiny babies in the nest boxes. Gotta wait till spring though. Good luck with your nests.

I think Star is a Type I yellow face spangle as I can't see any bleed in the body.

i wondered the same thing.

50% spangle

50% normals

some sky blue some cobalt

Thanks Guys. I also read somewhere that the YF gene is dominant over normal is this true? and if so does that mean they will all be YF.

KellyM.

Yellowface is a dominant gene in regard to the blue series. That is Sky Blue, Cobalt, Mauve and grey. It also can be infuranced by the violet factor. Now Blue is a recessive gene. So If you pair a blue series blird with a yellow face you should get a high number of yellowfaces.

I paired

and got 4 yellowfaces out 5, the 5th bird was a white cap cobalt. 2 st clutch.

The 1st clutch I got 1 yellowface and 1 white cap cobalt.

So out of 7 chicks 5 werey yellowfaced.

With your two being a skyblue dominant pied to a yellowface skyblue spangle you will probibly get high percentage yellowfaces. Out of which you will get normals, yellowface dominant pieds. yellowface spangles and yellowface spangle dominant pieds. all should be skyblue.

But what are your birds split to???? :hap:

Thanks Daz,

That explains it very well. As for what my birds are split for I guess we have to wait and see! ;)

so many variables I guess that is what makes it so interesting.

KellyM.

I forgot about the spot on the head ;)

But Daz I see Star as cobalt in colour not sky blue.

Nerwen you are right she is cobolt, definatley darker than Will. So I am presuming that I would get 50/50 skyblue and cobolt blue.

KellyM :P

I forgot about the spot on the head :(

But Daz I see Star as cobalt in colour not sky blue.

My poor old eyes do me wrong again...... :)

Yep 50% Skyblue and 50% cobalt.
