Pink Feet, Blue Feet?

Featured Replies

I have noticed recently that some of my budgies have bluish feet and the others pink feet. Is this because of certain mutations?

it is coloration

Nerwen I always wondered that considering Merlin is a violet and he has pinkish feet, I love the blue feet

I don't know if it means anything, but all my blue feeted budgies have carried the violet gene.

So is it possible that Jack Sparrow(the yellow bird in my picture) if bred could possibly produce a violet baby even tho he is bright yellow with a green tinge? please give me some budgie genetic smarts!!! hehehe

i asked my vet this question too, i thought my birds had a nasty and were dying. she told me that it was an increase of sexual hormons in their blood.

my bo's feet always get darker when there's a girl around or when breeding. i don't know how true this is but she answered it like it was a common question so. it does seem to fit in my flock

 I think Nerwen is right and the blood flowing from the excitment of the hormones could cause the feet to get warmer and darker like when they fly around and Pretty lands on my finger his feet are warmer.

It probably follows different mutations too.

Here is the definition of melanin http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book...nary&va=melanin

Yep loveys link is right. It's the same stuff we have in your skins (or lack off for some ) to get pale, tan, olive and black skins.

I can not answer the colour of feet to violet gene since I've never heard info that violets should or should not have grey feet.

My grey budgie has blue(ish) feet and grey toenails - maybe the green one has a grey gene?
