Hi Guys

I decided what better to do with a 3day weekend than build another aviary...hehe

I got the frame for $50, the wire $67 (had to buy it in 10mt roll so have extra just incase I need another aviary hehe) and about $20 for screws, washers and pop rivets, all the tin was given to me as a friend put up a new fence and asked me to borrow the trailor to take the old fence to the tip, and Im like, I can save you money and take the tin home.. hehehe. So all up it was a cheep aviary. It measures 10ft x 6ft and about 6 and a bit ft high.

Well Done!!!! I wish I was a builder heheeh I'm lucky if i can screw the walls together eheheh

looks good but another one with out a safety door the amount of birds lost by people entering the aviary to feed clean and water it should be one of the main concerns when building an aviary

Yes I have Cockatiels and Quails also, but mainly budgies

I actually have a clear plastic fly veil thingy (:glare:) across the inside of the door which I have on my other 2 aviary's and I haven't lost a bird yet.

I would be extremely concerned about the rust. If they chew on those rusty parts, they could get heavy metal poisoning. It's not something that has to happen overnight, it could build in their systems over a long period of time. I would hate to see anything happen to your birds.

what do you add to the bottom to keep them from escaping? do you add rocks or bark chips or something else?

I would think thats easy enough to clean up, a good scrub with steel wool and then a touch of rustolium paint? ? (dont know if thats a safe paint, but something like that, thats non toxic)
