Will a hen budgie feed a male when she is ready to mate? I bought a nest box at PetSmart a few days ago and would like to hang it outside of the cage. Both birds are actually feeding each other. Are they ready?

Budgerigars can breed at a young age but shouldn't be allowed to. They need to develop until they are 12 months old before breeding.

The hen will feed the male but usually only when he is sick. It is the male's job to feed the female and the chicks.

 

How old are your birds?
