Posted October 2, 200618 yr Just wanting peoples thoughts please. I have 2 breeding cabinets, both have babies about 4-5 weeks old. I don't want the parents to breed again because, for one hen its her second clutch and the other hen its her first clutch. My question is: is it too early to put the parents and babies into flight cages, which are basicly a double breeding cabinet without the nest boxes on each end. Will the parents still feed their babies in the new cages or will it upset the parents too much. The weather is getting a lot warmer these days and nights so the cold shouldn't be a problem. The babies seem to be getting out of the nest boxes by themselves a lot more lately. Your ideas and advice would be much appreciated. Cheers :wine Paul
October 2, 200618 yr The chicks can leave the nest box after 4 weeks old but will need to stay with the parents for another two weeks. All I would do is when the youngest is 28 days old take him from the nest box into the breeding cage andd take away the nest box. Leave the "Family" togeather in the cage until the youngest is 42 days and then move them to the flight. I have a nursary which I move the young to after 42days, it's a bit like a half way home. They are with other young until they are two to three months old and then I transfer them to the flight. The hens will probibly lay again on the cage floor. Just throw the eggs out if you don't want them.

October 4, 200618 yr I agree with hath i would take the hen away and just leave the cock to feed them I find the females can get a bit annoyed with the babies, and I have had a couple of babies die after being attacked by the female.
