Featured Replies

actually do any or all birds (caged) get flea's if so how do i treat them?

i had a rabbit rescue last nite and it had a flea on it and normally whn theres one theres more, i havent seen any flea's around the birds but just in case. bunny has since been treated.

I don't believe so they can get mites though.

Yep mites and lice.

okay so fleas are a no but they get mites and normal headlice or are these a bird only lice?

No these are bird lice. You can give them a bath with lice treatment from the vet.

Make sure they're diagnosed by the vet before giving treatment. Most indoor budgies never get mites or lice, it's more a threat to outdoor birds. :wine

if my bird will be inside all the time should i get a might protecter thing? i dont know what it is exaclty but i saw a thing from 8-1 pet products for mites and lice is it a good idea to get this or just a wast of money

These are actually very bad for your birds and shouldn't be used. The fumes they give off can do more damage to budgie lungs than to mites. In fact, many say that they are completely useless against mites. If your budgie is inside, there is no need to take any preventative measures against mites. If your bird does get mites at some point, you'll need to take him/her to the avian vet to be properly diagnosed and treated.
