Three's A Crowd

Hi Everyone! It's been awhile! My Tammy turned out to be female. Her cere turned tannish brown. I bought her a little friend, a male. His name is Higgins. I really enjoy watching their antics together. I'm not planning on breeding, however, I thought it would be nice to get another couple. I envy you living in Australia. I bet it's great watching a complete flock interact. Anyway, I bought what I thought was a little guy. In fact, I call him Pete. Well, after a month of quarantine, I started letting them out together. Higgins has become enamored with Pete. Higgins feeds *him* and keeps Tammy from getting near him. Higgins chases Tammy away like he's protecting Pete. Of course, Tammy thinks it's great because she's getting chased and she loves that game. Is is safe to assume that Pete is a female? He/she would be about 10 weeks old. I'm wondering because I would like to get one more of the opposite sex so that I would have two pairs.

what colour is Pete and what does the cere look like?? A picture would help, not to mention we love them

Males will feed and flirt with other males, so seeing this behaviour isn't the only thing to take into account when trying to sex a budgie.

I'm getting a new camera. The one I have takes blurry close-ups. I'm hoping that this new one won't do that. I believe that s/he is a blue dominant pied.

I'll bet you can't wait for that new camera...I know we are all waiting for pictures! :wine

Until then, when you look at "Pete's" cere, is it an even pink all the way through, including around the nostrils? Is it a darker pinkish/blue nearest the beak and lighter as it goes up to the nostrils? Is the area around the nostrils lighter in color than anywhere else on the cere? Maybe we can guess for now and then clarify things a bit when you can take pictures.

I'll move the topic to get a little more exposure.

You're right, I can hardly wait for it :) I guess the cere gets a little lighter near the nostrils. It's funny, Higgins hasn't got nearly as excited when he is with Tammy as he has gotten when he is with this little one and I know Tammy is female. Higgins does that constant chittering at times and Pete has never done it, but maybe he is just too young? I notice that you have a little one that looks something like Pete. I was going to get a normal blue or green because they are easier to sex....but when I saw the markings on this little guy, I just had to have him or her. The next budgie I get, though, will be a normal green so I can sex him or her :D

I took some pictures using the old camera. It is blurry. There is just nothing I can do about that :) The new camera should be coming in another week. I placed them under the budgie picture section titled "need help sexing budgie again" :)

Thank you

sharon
