Infertile Budgies

Featured Replies

I have a pair of budgies called Wing (M)6-7yrs and Sherbet( F)Around 2-3yrs. Both are partners and lay eggs whenever I add nesting boxes to their aviary. She has laid around 8 clutches in her lifetime but not 1 has ever hatched, I have even tested some of her abandoned eggs and have never found traces of blood or any embryos.

I hear budgies are life partners and I'm afraid to separate them as this may aggravate them, especially Sherbet who is quite dominant- I fear she might disturb the other hens with hatchlings.

Is there any way to let both of them raise hatchlings?

the male at 6 to7 years is on the old side for breeding i would say that one of them is infertile the only way you will be able to tell is to breed with different partners

I hear budgies are life partners

this is certainly not true seperate them for 10 to 14 days then introduce them to their new partners
