Posted October 4, 200420 yr Hi, My budgies feet seem to be hurting him...he's 12 years old so i'm not sure if it's just due to old age...but he finds it hard standing on them for too long and seems to be resting on his belly quite a bit...he often holds one of his feet in the air...but he can't seem to close it up anymore. He's still a very happy budgie...he talks a lot and can still fly well -he's just having trouble with his feet. :bluebudgie:
October 5, 200420 yr it probably is just old age. try and give him varius sized perches to stand on, so he can make a choice as to which is comfiest. NEVER give him those sanded perch covers! The person who invented those crappy things should be made to walk 10 miles with glass in his/her shoes! I would also if its possible, take the little thing to the vet, there may be something that you can give him to ease his discomfort. Does your bird like to bath? try a few drops of pure aloe vera in his bath water, that can be very soothing, and if its pure, is harmless if ingested.
October 12, 200420 yr It might help him if there was a platform of sorts in his cage that he could stand on flat-footed so he does not have to grip the perches. That way he could just rest on his stomach as well if his feet began to hurt too badly. It may help him to be able to flatten out his toes like that every now and then. If it makes him feel better, he will spend a lot of time there, if not, he won't and you haven't lost anything. But I would definitely take him to the vet as well for a checkup.
October 12, 200420 yr (Laughing out loud) rainbow, id just popped back to sugest that! some landing platforms will fasten securely inside a cage. Hows things with lil rainbow birdy?
