September 30, 200618 yr I think you could get away with it but the max for budgies is actually 1/2" Budgies can squeeze through some extremely small gaps if they put their mind to it.
October 1, 200618 yr 5/8 would be too big, I wouldn't risk it. Try finding one with 1/2 inch spacing or less.
October 2, 200618 yr I agree with eterri, some budgies are escape artists and you don't know which one until you get them and the risk is not worth it.
