Posted September 26, 200618 yr Hey all, I have never really fed my budgies an egg supplement to their diet,so I thought I might try it. I have been putting in about 1-2 teaspoons, and I sprinkle it over their normal food. My question is how often should I add the egg supplement? I have read only once a week, but I would like some more opinions. Thank you
September 26, 200618 yr :ausb: That's what I have been doing once a week and I add it to their treat food. :dbb1:
September 26, 200618 yr Author okay thank you. Have you noticed a difference at all in your budgies when you started using the egg supplement?
September 26, 200618 yr Nope but it makes me feel good! I know they are very healthy as they try and engage in unusual procreating behaviour and look just great! So I don't know know if it is the vitamins or egg supplement, veggies or what but all of them are doing just fine. :ausb:
September 27, 200618 yr If your budgies will eat a variety of fresh veggies (dark leafy greens, bright orange and yellow veggies) there's no need to even bother with a supplement as they will get all they need from the fresh food. There's no replacing a good varied diet and you have to be extremely careful not to overdose them on certain vitamins and minerals.
September 27, 200618 yr :ausb: So I shouldn't give them egg supplement once a week? They are usually bad about all vegetables other than greens but they will pick at carrots. Trying to do the best for my guys!
September 27, 200618 yr Mine had it every day for awhile, and only seemed to eat it occassionally. I don't feed it so regularly anymore, as they are not breeding. Actually, they are not around males at all, LOL. It is a very good protein source, and too much protein is not a good thing if there are not environmental reasons (ie breeding, flying long distances, etc.) for it. Too much protein is hard on the kidneys.
September 27, 200618 yr I would think so. I'd offer just a little bit either in a cup by itself or mixed in with the seed.
September 27, 200618 yr Author Those were my two main reasons. First my budgies pretty much wont touch fruit or vegitables, except watermelon, and even that they wont really touch. And in the future I planned on breeding them, so I thought why not give them a little now so they can get used to it. My budgies are too young to breed right now anyways, but I thought if I got them started on it, they would take it more readily when they are of appropriate breeding age.
