Introducing Lollipop

I havent taken any pics yet but we gained a new member to our flock last night.

His name is Lollipop and yes how cool is it... he comes with his own theme tuen " lollipop lollipop oh lolli lollipop.... my boy lollipop oooh ooh. you make my heart go giddy up.. ohh ohh..." hehe anyway you get the idea!

He is a six week old male from a very reputable breeder who jsut happens to be a very good mates grandad.

Now he is in his big new cage and he is happy to go onto your finger with a lil bit of help. You can get him out of his cage and cuddle him altho he does like just hanging out on his perch * surprise surprise* my kdis are very scary!... but once hes out as long as the kids arent around he'll hang out on my finger for 10 minutes at a time and likes snuggling up in the crook of my arm.

He is in another room to the other two birds and for the moment is quite happy there altho he does sing out to the other birds if i leave the door open.

But the question is what now?

In regards to my kids? i figure just let him have a few minutes at a time in the same room so he can get used to them.. does that sound about right?

Also hows the best way to start training him from here on in? I prolly ought to go read the other threads but i wanted to jsut get this posted before lunch as my kids are driving me crazy whinging.... and with 3 kids, 3 budgies and a husband to look after i do run out of time rather :ausb: so any advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks and i'll get some pictures taken later because i'd like to know what type he is. I figure hes a cobalt but his wings look different to my standard sky blue and my cobalt spangle i already have and he seems to have a tinge of green in hiw wings... i figure its not too early to tell right? So i'll get some help form you later hopefully.

bye for now, thanks in advance :bluebudgie:

:fear Handsome fellow you have there! :D Go to eterri's site, budgietalk and you will hopefully get the info you are looking for. :glare:

he looks like an opaline skyblue but shades of blue can look different on every monitor.

Yea i really dont think hes a skyblue because next to talullah who is a violet cobalt and pepsi who is a skyblue he looks FAR more like talullah.

But i wondered if he was maybe a opaline. Thanks for that

He seems to carry violet as you can see the violet hue around his neckline and under the cheekpatches :hap:

It's also possible that he's sky+voilet as that would make him look like cobalt and can be very hard to tell the difference until you breed from him to confirm.

Maybe if you post picture's of them all we can have a better idea?

I don't agree he is a skyblue violet opaline. If he is and you breed him to a mauve you can get the whole gamit. sky violets, visual violets and mauve violets. But check his tailfeathers for violet. Kaz that might just be suffusion on his neck. But you know how my eyes are. I think he is a opaline cobalt. But check his tail feathers.

yeah I'm not sure about the violet either the cheek patches are not the deep blue that violets get.

Don't forget also the range of colour in cobalts can differ slightly, not all will have the exact same shade.

You had a couple questions that were not answered so here is my view :).

Kids should be around the birds all the time. Talking to them, whistling if they can, walking by and working with you on stepping up. If you want him to be used to your kids you have to do the same thing that you would do but with them (supervised). Birds do attach themselves to one person and they also know who they can try or pretend to nip or fly away from. So keep the kids involved.

Go to www.budgietalk.com for excellent training tips along with reading through the forums there is so much there :).

Good luck.

Thanks Everyone. I"ll try and get 3 pics put up now of all my birds.

Lovey - Thanks for the input, however my kids are 3.5, 2.5 and 9 months. They are raucous and often dont know when to stop *rolls eyes*. Having said that i left LOllipop in my room for a week just bringing him in to meet the other birds ( just in cages) in the evening and now having ben here nearly 3 weeks i think, he is in the lounge all day with the other birds and i jsut take him into my room when i want peace and quiet to get him less nervous of me and train him without him wanting to fly straight to the other birds.

Daz - so if i find violet on his tail feathers... what does that mean? Cause i just looked and his tail feather is quite strong blue but his wings almost seem slightly green and i noticed it right from the day we got him! Its all so confusing! and actually from teh picture you can almost see the greeny tinge in his tail too!

Anyway here are some pics.

okay so having tried taking some more i cant get any with tru colour of Lollipop. He is far far more mauve looking in real life. Not as mauve as Talullah but in the pics he seems brilliant blue and hes not.

I jsut checked their cheek colours too and he has a very dark cheek patch, much like both of the other birds.

Also the wings on Lollipop dont show the greeny colour. I"ll have to try again some other time in broad daylight to try adn get the tru colours but here is the best i've gotten for now.

i jsut read the violet/purple question on here and i'm still so confused.

If my lollipop came from a clutch of greens and blues and is the most purple of the bunch but has greeny looking feathers in its blue tail and wing feathers.. what does that mean? I'm still sooo keen to know but at a real loss.

Thanks
