What If?

Morning all,

I probably sound really dumb here but I am concerned. I have a budgie that layed 2 eggs a couple of weeks ago. As I mentioned in a previous posting one of the eggs has a small crack and I don't know if that will produce a baby or not, waiting to see.

My question to all of you veteren birders out there....what if there aren't any babies? How does the mother and father cope?

The mother has been sitting in the nesting box since day 1 about 95% of the time. The father joins her often. They are such good parents already and they obviously care a great deal for one another. He will often just sit outside the box chatting with her to keep her company. It is a true love story. :P

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanking you in advance,

Vicki

The cope very well, she will normally state to give up on the nest after a period of time when no babies hatch and if left together will start all over again straight away. They don't attach feeling to the eggs as we do and so do not Grieve of the 'possibility'

:D Yes they don't seem to care about the eggs too much if they don't hatch, after addling many (as I did not want them to be viable), they eventually gave up on them but didn't seem upset. ;)

Well, that certainly makes me feel a bit better. I was concerned. So you are suggesting that if the eggs should not hatch within a certain amount of time, (how long after the due date do I wait?), then I should remove those eggs?

Should she be allowed to lay again so soon afterward? Maybe a few weeks in between?
