very nice just a quick question?

I don't see alot of different type of perches with different widths and tree like branches (a couple in the first couple pics)? Maybe it is blending in but if not some natural branches would be awesome for them to chew on and excellent exercise for their feet :( and ropes too with swings :(.

hi lovey, your right theres not many natural branch's in there mainly due to i dont know whats good and whats not, I dont have any gum trees here in canada , or at least not here near me. I have ton's of maple and apple and lots of other trees but because i dont know what they are i'm scared to put them in, now i have ordered some synthetic looking natural branchs from a small animal bulk store but they wont be in for a while yet.

Oh Maple is perfect Candace that is exactly what I use in our cage. My birds love it, it is a softer wood too and they loved to chew the bark right off. We have one in our backyard and I knew it wasn't sprayed so that is what I used.

I also made their swing from it, actually all their perches are from our Maple tree except for one calcium perch and a fake one I bought.

Here are some awesome websites :(

I love this one because it tell you how to prepare them. Now I did my perches in the spring before the new growth and green started and they have lasted until now and they are in great condition. I will redo them again so they have some bark too chew and they love to snap the twigs in 1/2 http://www.mdvaden.com/bird_page.shtml

thanks lovey this is great, what i really need is a plant and trees for dummies site that shows me with picture's as to what things are, but now knowing about apple and maple branches i'm gonna go collect myself some after the rain stops..

go to the aviary section of the site and click and look through the different pictures, I know there are some excellent guidelines and plus Karen aka Bubbles really knows how to make her aviaries interesting and exciting for her birds you may want to give her a quick PM or do a search for the pics of her birds.

great!! i'll go on the hunt for her bird picture's, see i never really know how many toys to put in being they are birds, and well birds fly and i was thinking to many toys damper this, now they do get out and fly around the house but its all very control so not always as long as they would like. So i guess what i'm asking in my rambling is lots of toys is okay even if it hampers the flying?

It depends on how you arrange them. You can put the toys more on the side of the cages and corners and leave the middle free that is what I have heard and what I have done.

I have a long perch on running along the side of the cage and the toys hang from the perch and on the top.

I find swings to be the best hit of all they love to fly from swing to swing and it is great exercise for their wings and feet especially for balance. Rope swings are easy to make with a bell and I just took a branch and made a swing with that.

I wouldn't put toys on the bottom because most birds don't go there BUT if you find you have some ground dwellers don't put the toys under a perch so they don't poop on them.

Hope that helps.

thanks lovey i'll be heading out in the morn for a slue of branch's, ohh now i'm all excited and its to dark out to see what i'm doing or going near(we have a crazy amount of skunks right now)

Here some of my aviary pikkies. The birds adore rope perches more than anything. Followed closely by the gnarliest twiggiest branches you can find. Leave the thinner twigs too as they seem to enjoy climbing on those as well.
