Posted September 22, 200618 yr I have tried many different ways to get stubborn Trixi & Bobby to have a bath. It always seemed as though they were scared of the water. I tried water in a container, wet lettuce for rolling in, spray bottle, & even just having a shower with my daughter! But NO.....they were petrified, & refused to go near the water. I figured that I'd just give up.... Until I was browsing this site last night, & saw Bea's post about her two having a bath. The photo's were great, but it was the funny video attached that got me thinking! Maybe I could do the same....... FOOD! Bobby's a pig! Will eat anything...even running up my arm to eat the apple that I'm trying to eat. Bea had lettuce IN the bath water....hhhhmmmm....I wonder if that'll trick 'em!? Soooo.....I gave that a go. They both looked at the container.....stuck their beaks over the edge....but didn't even attempt to get to the lettuce. I poked the lettuce over the edge of the container, so they could taste it without getting their feet wet. Bobby had a nibble....GREAT! We're getting there.......I turned around to get my camera. When I came back to them....this is the result!! Wet Trixi Wet Bobby So thank you BEA! If it wasn't for your post, I NEVER would have thought about putting lettuce in the bath water! It was the funniest thing ever watching them dive in & out of the water....they looked like they were having a ball! I know I was enjoying watching them! I don't know about the wall though....they got water everywhere! Cheers, Tracey
September 22, 200618 yr That's so great that they liked it!! It's the only way a lot of my budgies will bathe. Gorgeous pics by the way.
September 22, 200618 yr Oh those pictures are TOO cute for words Thanks guys.....I thought they were cute too, but I'm biased! With Trixi's feathers all wet, along her back/rump, her feathers almost take on a flourescent light.....can anyone else see the bright green too?
September 22, 200618 yr aw they are so cute! they look like they are having a great time! I tried that with oscar but he just spent hours pulling the lettuce out of the tub!
September 22, 200618 yr I would love to get mine in the water! The only time so far has been when my crazy baby, Sherbet fell in the water bowl while doing acrobatics on the cage roof. It is a bit too chilly here now, so I will wait for warmer times. thanks for sharing the great bathing pics, Shell
September 22, 200618 yr Cheeky that's what mine did as well, :(Laughing out loud): Glad to see them having a ball Max.
September 23, 200618 yr Will definately have to give that a go. So it's just cut up lettuce? Or a big lettuce leaf?
September 23, 200618 yr If you just put a few wet lettuce leaves out for your birdies they'll probably have a bit of a roll in them.
September 23, 200618 yr Will definately have to give that a go. So it's just cut up lettuce? Or a big lettuce leaf? I was using baby endives, so it wasn't 'technically' lettuce.... I just ripped off the leaves whole, & threw them in the water. But being baby endives, they aren't very big anyway. I'm sure the birds wouldn't mind if they were chopped up or whole....but I'm so thrilled that I've found a way to get them excited about baths! I hope this works for you too!!
