Should she breed

Have this hen who is as nice as pie when on her own or with a nother bird. but when with a male and a nest box is around she gets quite visious. i can usually handle her but when in nesting as she is now she tends to get quite fiesty towards me. when in the first couple of days she was paired she attacked the **** but now has accepted him. she has bred before with the same attitude but was a fantastic mother. she is a 4yr old and she is quite tame and i am just wondering if her being tame is the problem. can someone please help. i want to breed her for her beautiful colours but i don't want to harm the **** with her attitude. :bluebudgie:

i have heard that many budgies get aggressive towards humans and budgies that are not their mate or children, but that it goes away after they are done raising the chicks. im not sure though... i think hath would know... (cos he's experinced and all)

I don't think that the fact that she is tame has anything to do with her attitude. I think some hens are just more possessive or aggressive when in the breeding mode.

i agree with rainbow some are easier than others at breeding time i would just keep a close watch on her with the male

i had to take the male out to stop further breeding. she has either become egg bound but can't feel the egg, she was due top lay on the 27th last month but didn't she is getting a cheesey colour under her tummy where swelling is. this a asume is the developing egg. i read somewhere that some hens can lay the egg inside of them selves and i read that there is a yolk something where the yold has spilled out of the egg. either way i took her down to the bird shop for there advice and they game me this calcium stuff to put in her water. i am keeping a watch out for her but now that the **** is out she is taking a very great amount of interest in me again. so when she gets better i may just leave her away from the other budgies which are now flying around in an avery where i realised how much green coloured birds i have which i tought was funny at first.

but thanks for your help. i might not breed her in future.
