Posted September 19, 200618 yr Hey all! I jus have a quick question, well I know in the green and blue budgies the cere turns crusty brown when the hen is in breeding condition. But is that the same in all female budgies? In some does the cere not change at all? Even in the males, I know some turn light to dark blue, but in some I heard they can still be in "breeding condition" if the cere is pink or purple in certain colors. Is this true? Thank you Edited September 19, 200618 yr by hops523
September 19, 200618 yr The hens in budgies will always have the brown crusty cere no matter what their colour is. With males there are some type of colours that keep the pink cere of a baby boy. All the red eyed mutations keep the pink colour as do recessive pieds and DEC.
September 20, 200618 yr Author Also I have another quick question, but I did not want to make a new topic. When some people have baby budgies, I have noticed that they will put them in a fish tank with some bedding at the bottom. My question is when people do this are they hand feeding? or do they have the mother feed and when they are old enough do they put them in the tank?
September 20, 200618 yr I'm not sure on that one, maybe they are in the fish tank as a temporary measure while the nest box gets cleaned out?? I used to leave the babies in the box for cleanings, but I think most people don't.
September 20, 200618 yr Author yeah that might be it. I remember awhile ago while I was at the bird store they had some baby budgies in a fish tank. There were maybe 6, they were all really young, but all their feathers were grown in.
September 20, 200618 yr Some pet stores will keep the budgies in a tank, but those babies are all trimmed.
September 20, 200618 yr Author Yeah they were. I just didnt know because I thought that would be a good idea to keep them in something like that when they are a little older. thanks for the response
