Trying To Mate Already?

Lady and Tye are busy raising 4 chicks, the youngest is only 5 days old. Yesterday I spotted Tye attempting to mate with her again! Thankfully Lady shooed him away but I am concerned - this is Lady's 2nd cluth - her 1st 4 eggs were broken by a jealous avairy mate. I will remove the nesting box as soon as these chicks have fledged, so that Lady can recover. Is this usual behaviour?

Usually the next eggs will be laid when the youngest is around 28 days old. This is normal.

Don't worry if she lays again, the stress is in raising the chicks not the laying of eggs.

Yes its normal for the male try mating everytime the hen leaves the box no matter the age of babies, she will do as your did and tell him off until she is ready again.

eggsactly :) what some of my hens do. But at the wrong time :budgiedance:
