Posted September 16, 200618 yr Hi all, My name is Luke and I like budgies (duh!) I have owned just 4 budgies in my life to date. Tweety-pie who was my 1st lived to 9 years of age, Sylvester who lived to 11 years, Sebby who only lived for just over 1 year unfortunately, and Batty who is currently 9 months old. I just transferred Batty to a larger cage that Tweety-pie and Sylvester used to share and live in during my childhood. I am hoping to get a new addition sometime next week to keep Batty company. As Batty is a female, I will most likely get a male bird that is under a year old. Oh yeah the reason why we called her Batty was because in the first 3 months of her life she would hang upside down in the top corner of the cage and sleep in the same manner a bat does. In the future I would like to start breeding and have a good sized aviary. However at the moment we are only renting so I wont go down this path until we have purchased a house of our own. So how many budgies does everyone here have? Cheers Luke
September 16, 200618 yr Do you have any pictures? I just have the one called Oscar. Had Cheeky until he was about 8 and a half before he died.
September 16, 200618 yr Welcome . Would love to see pics of Batty. As for getting a companion for batty here are a couple things I just want to put out there for you. 1. Make sure you quarentine for 30 days, meaning you keep both of them separate from each other until a month is over. This ensures that your new bird isn't carrying anything to pass on to your existing birds. Avian vets actually say 90 days is more recommended but at least 30-45, I did that when before I intro Pretty and Merlin. 2. You don't have to get a male because she is a female. Unless you are thinking of breeding in the future after doing your homework . For Pretty (yes I know girly name), we got another male Merlin for companionship because I personally had read about eggbinding, laying eggs without a nestbox (which is rare but happens) and I didn't have future plans on breeding. So 2 of the same sex is a perfect combination. I look forward to getting to know you and Batty more and your newest addtion. A good site to reference also is eterri's www.budgietalk.com.
September 16, 200618 yr Hi hilly1981 and welcome to the forums. I have currently 36 I think but that at the moment changes from day to day. When you get your next bird make sure you quarentine it. Click on the links on my signature to see how and why.

Citris and Shadow. Tomorrow I am getting two more now that I finally have a cage for the waiting time. I hope to get one more pair soon and start breeding next summer or fall. See you around, Shell
