Posted September 16, 200618 yr I was thinking my budgie Scooter might enjoy going outside sometimes, but I have a few questions. Would it even be okay for him to be outside? It would be in the evening, since I'm in Texas and it's really hot during the day. Also, I'm thinking it might be better to use a cage that's smaller than his. His is pretty big and is kinda difficult to hang up under the patio. Would it scare him to much to go outside and be in a cage that he isn't used to? Or would he eventually associate that cage with outside time? Thanks for any advice
September 16, 200618 yr I would say that he would have no problems outside. How small would the cage be and does he get any flighting time inside? Edited September 16, 200618 yr by daz
September 16, 200618 yr Author I'm not sure what size cage I would get. Just something a little smaller than his. Not too small though. And yes, he gets alot of flying time inside. If I'm home, then he's outside the cage for the most part, and is free to fly around my bedroom. I probably wouldn't have him outside for very long, but just long enough for him to get some fresh air. I think he'd enjoy it.
September 16, 200618 yr they do enjoy it I would suggest getting a cage that doesn't hang because I don't feel they are stable enough and they can fall and open. Also I would personally have the back covered with a towel or something to make him feel secure on one side so it is not all open in the beginning. I know Pretty when he was alone and in a smaller cage enjoyed it. Now I just wheel their cage over the the sliding glass doors and they can enjoy the fresh air. never leave him unsupervised but I am sure you knew that just throwing it out there . Those are my suggestions. The cage size I would get would be something like 17x19x17 (est I know they are not perfectly sized like that)
September 16, 200618 yr Author I have a table on the patio, but hanging the cage would probably be better for him. I have 6 dogs in the backyard and they might mess with him. They wouldn't hurt him, but would be curious and want to see what it is. And that would frighten him I'm sure. My dad would secure it so it wouldn't fall. Covering the cage on one side sounds like a good idea though. He'd always be supervised though. I'd bring him out whenever I was out there. I'm out there every day to take care of my dogs, rabbits, and guinea pigs, and that would give him some time to get a little sun and fresh air.
October 5, 200618 yr I say yes! The bird will LOVE it! My little recommendation is, secure all of the doors with twisty ties. We have a bird that can get out, and you just never know when yours might learn that trick! :(Laughing out loud):
October 6, 200618 yr Pegs are better than twisty ties, twisty ties have metal that's bad for budgies under the plastic and budgies being curious creatures may chew through and get this. I think you're budgie would definitely enjoy spending some time outside. My boys do.
October 6, 200618 yr I had Moon on my shoulder once and decided to go outside. I felt confident she wouldnt fly off because she hadnt moved from my shoulder the whole day. I went outside and she started chirping when she heard the neiborhood Mocking Birds. She was absoluteley facinated butIve been buisy and its getting chilly outside this time of year.
October 8, 200618 yr Just make sure you give him some shade by covering part of his cage to get out of the sun if he wants. I sometimes spray my birds in summer with cold water and they love it. I just spray a mist into one corner of the flight with a hose and let them go to the water if they want and you should see them they love it
