I have a lovely violet opaline male and a gorgeous green/yellow dominant pied female. If they breed what next spring, what do you think I would get?

Thanks in advance

Let look at the genes.

Male

Violet (dominant)

Opaline (sex link gene)

Female

Dominant Pied. (dominant)

Dominant colour is green.

Males will be all Split to Opaline

Females will all be Opaline.

All the chicks should be violets, dominant pieds and violet dominant pieds.

If the chicks are not violet they should be green

So the females will be:

Green Opaline

Opaline, Dominant Pied

Opaline, Violet

Opaline, Violet, Dominant Pied

Males will be:

Normal Green, Split Opaline

Dominant Pied, Split Opaline

Violet, Split Opaline

Violet, Dominant Pied, Split Opaline

But what is the Male and Female split to ??????

Thanks Daz,

Not a clue to what male and female are split to. I have no info on their genetic history. It will be fun seeing what happens with babies if I decide to breed this pair. I am getting more budgies so I amy have more than one pair and decide to change partners if they are willing.(Laughing out loud) Sounds like these two would make some very beautiful babes though.

Thanks again,

Shell

Good article Lovey. To add, you can use the violet factor to enhanse the ino gene. It will give lutinos a more buttercup colour.

Now that is neat I haven't read that yet. Would it be considered a creamino then?

or is that only if they are YF ino's

No they are still lutinos but the yellowing is much brighter.
