Nharvi And Konrad Says Hi

Hi there,

we are new to the forum! I am a 25 year old girl from Sweden. I have been on the forum unregistered for about a month now and I'm somewhat new to budgies. Then there is Konrad, my first budgie who my fiance gave me last october for my birthday. After almost a year now of not knowing for sure what gender Konrad is, I got some help here, and it has been decided "he" is a "she". I have called KOnrad "he" for the past year, so it will be quite a change, but I hope I will learn soon.

Konrad is a strange little bird. From people I talk to who have budgies and from what I read, he isn't behaving really like they should... I guess it runs in the faimly, that thing about not being like everyone else ;D

For start, all she eats is those Kräcker candy sticks from Vitakraft.. I'm not sure if you know about them, but I'll show a couple of pics here for you. They seem to have most of whats needed for her to feel alright, but I would like to have her eat a little more diffrent things. Since I got her, I've always had a couple of diffrent options of food for her in the cage, and in the beginning she ate some of the normal birdfood, but now it's all hirsch or those kräcker sticks.

EDIT: removed links that didn't work, they look like honey sticks, explained it more further down.

She isn't getting fat, nor is she too skinny (at least I don't think so). She just wants her food the way she likes it, and if I don' give it to her, she refuses to eat anything else til she gets one, even if thats 24 hours later. Yea, she knows what she wants, our little lady.

She hates the camera with a passion, so taking her picture isn't too easy, but I've tried to take a few so you get a chance to see her. You will also see her tailfeathers are a bit miss-shaped and way too short, they have been that way since Konrad was born, but she doesn't seem to suffer from it, flies like the wind and doesn't seem to notice that she is missing about 2 inches of her tailfeathers =)

She has her cage open all day long and fly around the room a lot, so she is gettng exercising as well. We usually have music put on on the computer even when we are not at home, and we have noticed techno, loud drums and the song "In the jungle" (you know the one from the Lionking that Timon and Pumba sings?) are the favourites. She goes bananas when it's on, I haven't really figured out if she loves it or hates it =) It's clear she wants to be louder than the song itself whenever it comes on tho.

Other than that, she sleeps hanging from the side in her cage, or squeesed in between the roof in her cage and the swing she has. Tried to find a picture, but imagine the space between the roof og the cage where the swing is put onto and where the iron bar starts going down to form the top of the swing, we are talking about barely an inch of room or so.

The people next doors have a cat, who sometimes sneak over to our balcony (we live on the second floor), and he sits outside our door whining to come in. 'Aha!' thinks Konrad, ' a pal!' She happily sings and talks to the cat outside who now realise that there is fresh dinner in our apartment, and whines even louder.

We are considering getting Konrad a friend, but we haven't decided yet. Since Sweden is extremly cold in the winters, and really warm in the summers (and this summer especially), Konrads cage have been out with us on the balcony most of the days and he has had a lot of friends out in the trees by our house, as well as the budgies in the aviar next doors, so now when winter is incomming it feels somewhat cruel to leave him all alone without a birdfriend to talk to during the days.

Anyway, thats my little treasure. If you want to get to know him better, feel free to have a look at him here either in pictures or at the video I posted (yea thats me trying not to laugh when my fiance tries to get Konrad into his cage again when he had just arrived 3 months old) =P

welcome again

your first links are not going to pics but asking for a password

the 2nd set of links are working

Look forward to getting to know both of you better...this forum is addicting and we love pics. I would love to see her hanging upside sleeping.

Welcome. Hope you enjoy your time here. It is very addictive as Lovey says. Lots of great people and lots of good information.

The links for a Kräcker candy sticks don't work as Lovely stated, are you meaning the thing in the last picture with Konrad? or a stick of normal seed, what we call a honey stick.

She is beautiful. If you want to try normal seeds again put a little chunk of the stick seeds in the dish to see if she will eat it and around it.

I'm glad you decided to join us after reading for a while. Hope to see you around more now

Hi all and thank you for the replies.

Yes, it's sorta like the honey sticks, they sell them here in Europe, but they have a special type that has a lot of fruit, eggs and other things in them, on the package it says it's an all-side diet and all the budgie needs, but I'm not sure if I sould trust it. However, it is from Vitakraft who are known for their good products.

I'll try to get a picture of her sleeping, but like I said, she hates the camera with a passion =)

Hello and Welcome! I think I must have lurked around for about 6 months before I joined... I'm glad to hear about you and Nharvi (how is that pronounced?) and look forward to reading all about you both. The search function on the boards is very good, so if you need more ideas about converting her to a better diet I'd start in the nutrition forum and do searches if necessary. Good Luck! Budgies can be very finicky, as I'm sure you've noticed.

:budgiedance: Hello to all of you , like Rainbow says, a more nutritious diet is required. I reserve any of those honey/nut/fruit/egg sticks for a treat about once or twice a month, don't think that their fat and sugar content is acceptable on a daily basis. Besides, they are terribly expensive! Looking forward to seeing more pictures. :)
