When To Let Babies Stay Out The Nest?

Tebo and his sibling (unamed) keep jumping out the nest. Tebo doesnt have all his feathers yet so i know to put him back in, but the other chick has all its feathers (on body, not sure about flight feathers) and he jumped out today I put him back in ,but next time should I transfer him to the nursery because he is 31 days old? Last time I left a chick wander around the breeding cage for a few days to be weaned, his parents attacked and killed him! :D I dont want that to happen again.

Most of my baby budgies fledge at 4-5 weeks and if fully feathered I leave them out. The "not-so-feathered ones" I pop back in too :D . I do give them a hidey place if they need it. Some parents can be unpredictable I guess. I just monitor whats happening with regard to parents feeding the baby or not. I provide some egg and biscuit for the babies and some shredded english spinach, corn and grated carrot. If you give the bird a box to hide in, keep a close eye on them as they can hide away in there and not come out to feed. You can buy little plastic igloo type things designed for hamsters and mice that are great hidey places for fledged budgies...really cool. :D I have a nursery aviary too where I closely watch all babies to make sure they are eating and learning to fly. Not much room to learn to fly ina breeder cage.

So next time leave the oldest one out, and once its eating seed transfer it to the nursery. Thanks :D

If you feel comfortable that its eating and / or parents are still caring for it. Yes. Only you can guage that is by careful watching. Some parents get angry when fledged babies re enter the nesting box too. You just have to know your birds and all their funny little ways. Good luck :D

I let my chicks out of the nest box after 28 days but they are in the breeding cage untill they are 42 days. If they are eating they are then transfered to the nursary cage with other youngsters until they are 3 months old.

Then they are moved to the flight.
