Posted September 8, 200618 yr Does anybody know why budgies and other birds can talk? Does it have any use in the wild?
September 8, 200618 yr One theory that I heard was that they're imitating a larger animal which if you think about it would discourage other predators from going their way.
September 9, 200618 yr I was talking about wild parrots, but yeah that's a good question. This is from Parrots for Dummies ((Laughing out loud)) http://www.dummies.com/WileyCDA/DummiesArticle/id-3112.html
September 9, 200618 yr I see it more as they learn from each other in the wild how to sing correctly to win the girl and such, but in the house their 'flock' is us and the one that talk have accepted that to a higher degree than the other scared ones that don't want anything to do with humans. There are birds in the wild that will mimic other birds in the area and I believe the lyrebird is one of them, these sort of bird with even mimic sound made from humans if they live close by.
September 9, 200618 yr awww no you need the sound .. it has the lyrebird imitating car alarms and chainsaws
September 9, 200618 yr Author yeah i got it to work that time. That was absolutely amazing!!!! I loved the chainsaw!!!
September 9, 200618 yr so the next question is why are the bigger birds better mimicers who is going to go after them in the wild? Like the toos and macaws?
