Why Do Budgies Talk?

Does anybody know why budgies and other birds can talk? Does it have any use in the wild?

One theory that I heard was that they're imitating a larger animal which if you think about it would discourage other predators from going their way.

aah that makes sense! thanks

:ausb: So how come the scared, untamed ones don't?

I see it more as they learn from each other in the wild how to sing correctly to win the girl and such, but in the house their 'flock' is us and the one that talk have accepted that to a higher degree than the other scared ones that don't want anything to do with humans.

There are birds in the wild that will mimic other birds in the area and I believe the lyrebird is one of them, these sort of bird with even mimic sound made from humans if they live close by.
