Hi im new to budgie breeding and was wanting to know if anyone has crested budgies or knows anything about them? I have 4 cresteds and will get more if i can find them, but cannot find info about them. I have 1 blue and 3 green. the blue girl and green boy are sitting on 7 eggs, they r both sharing the box and he comes out to get food for her.

Any info re cresteds would be appreciated.

I cant find any info in books or online, apart from a breif description of what they look like.

hi mryks. i fancied having a pair of crested myself. i went last week to the biggest bird market in holland ''zwolle''. there were thousands of budgies going for about 15-20 euros a pair. there was one pair of crested and he wanted 70 euros for them. maybe next year

what does a crested budgie look like? Never heard of them.

They have a lovely little quiff!

yeah i think they are wonderful, i saw a pair at a breeder's that i visited. they just look like they have misplaced feathers on thier head hehe!!

Their crest can be as little as one pokey up feather to a full afro hair doo!!!

I used to hate them because i thought they looked like total boof heads!!! :(Laughing out loud): I reckon they're cute now though, specially the ones with just a couple of out of place feathers!!!

I think I've seen ones that look like they have pom pom glued to their head - are they the same thing?

Dunno. I don't know if there is a differance between crested budgies and show budgies who look like poofy heads! Regardless, i think the pom pom heads look silly!

I toyed with the idea of putting hair gel in but common sense won the day apart from that I think the show judges would smell a rat or hair gel

An interesting fact getting a little off the topic hair gel is in fact a liquid plastic Yuk

Well I suppose it?s better than super glue or what ever those punk guys use

Do crested budgies have any ailments associated with them? For example, the ones with crest goin over their eyes makes me think of Old English Sheepdogs and how their eyes get inflamed cos of the fur that's constantly in them. Grr, humans just screw up most domesticated animals through artificial selection....

 

And it must be a recessive trait eh. Hmm.
