New Toys

As you may know - I bought my boys a new cage, and as it was so big, it was severly lacking in the toy department. I went and bought some new acrylic swings and some hanging toys, and new rope perches.

Well they are TERRIFIED of them... when I put the perches in the cage they cowered in the corner as if I had put a cat in with them. To help ease their fear I hung some millet over them so they would know that these things in their cage is the way to yummy food... at first, Bobby hung from the side of the cage nibbling on his millet, then slowly rested a foot on the offending perch. When he decided it wouldn't hurt him he proceeded to stand on it and enjoy the millet.... Sunny did much the same!

I have now witnessed them standing on their new perches on the odd occasion... funny with their nice new shiny acrylic toys (that aren't very cheap) the only thing they seem interested in is the twist tie I used to hang the millet from... :(

:(Laughing out loud): poor things

You know Merlin always play with the shiny metal hanger part and not the toy - silly birds.

I stopped buying toys took some out and rotate them now

It's a bit like buying toys for little kids....you get them a toy for their birthday and they spend an hour playing with the wrapping paper! Smudge can entertain himself with the metal thing that attaches his cuttlefish to the bars of his cage...I wish I was so easily amused!

Funny little story...not budgie related, but relevant...my mother bought my two year old son (who is now 11) a wind-up sesame street big bird toy. She wound it up and put in on the tray of his high chair while he was sitting in it and he promptly screamed, sent it flying across the room and burst out crying!

I've learnt to play with Bluey's new toys by myself, while she's watching, on the table and wait until she comes to investigate them before I stick them in her private space (cage). Rather like a child really.
