I Just Had To Do It

We got a new budgie. Saw one in the petstore we couldn't resist. I'd like to know what mutation you think he is.

He's at least 4 months old, maybe even 5. He has an iris ring. I tried to take a picture to show it. Guess we'll see how it shows up here.

I would say about 4 months he looks like he is going through a moult.

What a cutie...by my moniter he looks Cobalt in color and he is a Spangle.

Lovey's right but what a great shot the first one is. You can see the irus ring begining to develop.

Any front shots available of this pretty bird ? I am wondering if there is maybe some dominant pied in there as well. I have one a bit the same and she is dominant pied also as well as spangle. Also on my monitor it shows a violet hue around the neck area......maybe some violet in there too.....possibly sky violet ?? More photos would be good.

Meet Pie....he is dominant pied spangle 1a1095.jpg ....hence my extra questions

Here is Rose on the right...she is dominant pied spangle too aug06066x.jpg

No Riebe you are not imaging it. I relooked at the picture this morning I see the opaline and the blue slightly within the wings esp by the neck and Karen you are right I was debating that yesterday but I would say violet possible sky blue one.

okay, here's the best frontal shots I took today. It's not as bright as yesterday so the shots are a bit darker. He also actually went on my finger for about 20-30 seconds, so that's good to me. Yes, he's going through a pretty good moult right now.... I'm glad to hear the spangle. We wanted a violet spangle but knew it would be tough to work out if he was violet or cobalt only.

Well he's not pied, but definitely spangle and must be opaline if there is body colour on the wings which on my monitor there is. Also sky violets appear as cobalts....its a different kind of blue to a cobalt but often mistaken for cobalt. So sky violet maybe. There is a flash of violet around the neck at the sides. Either way a pretty budgie :budgiedance:

It's a rabbit Kirby. Kathleen's black bunny that she calls "Blackie". It's a fairly large cage and all you see in that shot is a small corner of it. I thought of Mango myself actually, but it just doesn't seem to fit a blue budgie. Ken thought maybe we should call it B-fer. As in "B for budgie". That's cute, but it doesn't appeal either. We'll think of something. I'll show him your huge list tonight and see what he thinks.

Good to know that we weren't too far off from what we wanted. He seems like a nice bird so far. Has not been a squawker. *whew*

:bluebudgie:

I really think Cujo, Toby, Charlie, Cosmo, Quincy, Buddy, Noah, or Omeigo... :budgiedance:

Still working out the name. Kathleen calls him "New Budgie" for now. She wanted to call him Pluto for some reason. Something will appeal.

I remember I had the toughest time with naming Merlin are you leaning toward a name that fits his coloring?

I actually like Pluto that was a name I considered for Merlin.

It's official. I didn't really want to go with it, since the colour meaning was wrong. However, it rhymed and Kathleen really likes it. So, it's Mango and Tango.

Mango looks like he may be a handful. Not that he's bad, cause he's not. I've never seen a budgie so intent on trying to fit into tight spaces that they may NOT get out of. We've had to put elastics on the food trays in the cage to make sure they stay in (He has no access to these, they are on the OUTSIDE of the cage). He knocked them out and then got stuck trying to go through where the perch meets the tray. When the tray is in, it's tight, but okay. When it's out. He needs help to get out. He tries to fit through the top rung of the ladder which he also just fits through. So, hopefully we've got all his little 'tight' spots so that he can get back out of them.
