Hello

 

I have 2 budgies, Sherbet a yellow lutino and Nimbus a blue clearwing. Sherbet is about 1 year old I guess and Nimbus is 6 – 8 months. I had Sherbet for about 1 month before getting another budgie to keep him company. It took a few weeks for them to get used to each other but now they are the best of friends.

 

I was told by the breeder I got Nimbus from that he was the first “batch” from a young female and she did not give him enough of acertain vitamin so his feathers fell out. He has all his feathers but they are quite short and he can’t fly. The breeder told me that his feathers will grow stronger and they will stay in. He nearly has a nice tail now but no long wing feathers yet but they are getting there. He climbs around the cage well enough. I’ve also put bubble wrap under the sand sheet for a softer landing when he does fall.

 

I’ve been trying to tame then and get them use to me putting my hand in the cage. I’ve been bribing them with millet. First off I just held it in my hand and put it near them to eat. Then I moved my hand so they had to come to me to get some. Now I have put it just out of reach so they have to climb on my hand to get it. This is working perfectly with Sherbet. He had a routine now and climbs on my hand without hesitation. Nimbus is still very shy. He knows the millet is there and comes to get some but he will not go on my hand. He either finds a perch where he can just reach or doesn’t bother at all. Or Sherbet says “no this is my food and scares him off”. I can’t really separate them but would love to have Nimbus friendly too.

 

Do I just need to wait and he will come when he is ready? I hope to one day take away the millet and for them to still come to me but I don’t know if that will work just yet.
