My understanding is that close inbreeding doesn't cause deformities but it intensifies any attributes or faults that are on the genes so if there are any problems in the genetic makeup they'll come out.

It can be used to find out if there is a fault in a line.

I'd suggest that if you do have a brother sister mating you need to make sure that you have a good out cross for the progeny if you were going to keep them.

If the birds are good then reading up on how to establish a line would be a good idea.

The closest I would go with inbreading is Mother-Son or Father-daughter. Most breeders I've

spoken with will go no furhter than this and then only if they have to eg: to strenghten a line

in breeding.

 

Mating brother and sister can create problems, which you certainly can

do without.

I would agree with bruce. If you do inbreed you need the line to breed out again.

Again, could you elaborate a little? I know you can't just look at this bird and know how long it's going to live. :hap: Unless you know it's background or something it was more of a rhetorical question.

 

I think it's very important (especially when discussing something as serious as breeding) to be thorough in how you explain things. As a responsible breeder yourself, I'm sure you wouldn't want just ANYONE going out and inbreeding just ANY bird, right??
